New York Methodist Hospital's School of Medical Technology offers an educational program in clinical laboratory sciences. Formal academic instruction provides both a theoretical basis in various subject areas, and an understanding of the medical problems which may underlie a physician's request for laboratory services. The clinical laboratories where students receive their practical training are well-designed and furnished with state of-the-art precision instruments, computers and electronic equipment.
The program involves a full-time, one-year commitment. During the course of the year, the student studies all fields related to the laboratory sciences including but not limited to: clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, blood bank, urinalysis and body fluids, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, coagulation, molecular diagnostics, safety, educations topics, management, quality control, patient ethics and more.

Goals
New York Methodist Hospital's School of Medical Technology offers a one year educational program with both formal lectures and clinical rotations through all areas of clinical laboratory science. The school will provide the didactic and clinical instruction necessary to:
- Ensure graduates have obtained the entry level competencies needed to work as a clinical laboratory scientist.
- Instill the highest standards of performance and professional ethics in all graduates.
- Provide educational opportunities for students to assume leadership roles in their profession and their communities.
- Prepare students to assume their role in scientific communities.
- Prepare students to successfully function as problem solvers utilizing critical thinking skills.

College Affiliations
The New York Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology has agreements in place with St. Francis College, Long Island University, SUNY Plattsburgh, and the College of Staten Island of the City University of New York which stipulate that upon graduation of the School of Medical Technology student’s will receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from these institutions.
